Bosque
del Apache
If you're into bird photography
Bosque del Apache NWR is the place to be in the Fall. It's located 90 miles
south of Albuquerque NM on the northern edge of the Chihuahuan desert
just south of Socorro. The
NWR straddles the historic Rio Grande river with the heart of the refuge being about 13,000 acres of moist
bottomlands and rest made up of arid foothills and mesas, which rise to
the Chupadera Mountains on the west and the San Pascual Mountains on the east. The wildlife refuge
is the gathering place of tens of thousands of birds; including sandhill
cranes, snow geese, and many other species of ducks and birds. They gather
each autumn and stay through the winter. The sight of all these flying
critters is truly amazing, the morning and evenings skies are filled with
thousands of birds and sights are spectacular!
The photographic possibilities
there are unlimited with the fall colors and an infinite number of willing
subjects.
Remember your tripod and lots of
film or large flashcards!
