Here is a quick posting from this mornings stop at Mesa Arch in CaynonLands National Park.
It’s a single click from a Nikon D3x with a 16mm f2.8 covering a very large exposure range. The 16mm allowed me to capture the entire arch yet exclude the tourist that piled off the two buses that arrived just as the sun came up.

This morning started out in Arches National Park as a fast moving cold front was moving through the area. As the morning sun became visible, the light gracefully danced through these storm clouds.
This was taken as a color image and converted into black and white in PhotoShop CS4 using Nik’s Silver Effects Pro filter.

I got to do something last night that I’ve wanted to try for a long time – star trails.
I’m in the Moab area of Utah and the clear dark sky here is just killer for doing star trails. It takes some trail and error to get one to work but with some coaching from my good friend Moose Peterson I was off and running.
